Teaching foreign languages

The Department of Foreign Languages is committed to ensure that graduating students should acquire high level professional foreign language communication skills both in writing and speaking in at least one foreign language. To this end, full-time students in the bachelor and undivided training programmes receive two hours of compulsory language tuition per week for two years, with a second year of language classes in the field of their specialisation. Students who have not yet passed the required foreign language examinations will be prepared for the relevant foreign language examinations. Students who already hold a foreign language certificate must also attend language courses in the second year.

We offer foreign language courses in English, German and French in five different fields of specialisation, according to students’ degree courses:

    foreign language for agriculture,
    foreign language for technology,
foreign language for business and economics,
    foreign language for pedagogy,
    foreign language for the arts.

First-year students complete a placement test at the end of August and are allocated into foreign language groups on the basis of their results.

Students in higher-level vocational training programmes study specialised languages in the first or third semester of their training programmes.
